KELOWNA CITY FC - Extreme Weather Policy

At Kelowna City FC, we make participant safety our first and foremost priority. Below are our policies dealing with different weather events and the protocols we follow to ensure our participants safety. 

Extreme Heat

We will follow the weather forecast laid out by The Weather Network and refer to the 'Feels Like' temperature which factors in humidity and its' effects. 

1. Below 30C - we will run programming as scheduled.
2. 30-34C - we will run programming, but with more breaks and hydration, if the coach feels the heat is acting as a detriment to players, they may end the session at their discretion
3. 35C & Above - programming will be cancelled.

Air Quality

We refer to the Canadian Government's AGHI website and Weather Canada for indicators of poor air quality. See below for our criteria for programming

1. Low - 1-3 - Programming runs as normal
2. Moderate - 4-6 - Programming runs as normal, coaches monitor for any adverse effects. Session may be ended at their discretion should they feel players are suffering adverse effects.
3. High - 7-10 - Programming will be cancelled.
4. Very High - Above 10 - Programming will be cancelled.

Rain & Thunder/Lightning

As there can be a wide variance in rain and thunder/lightning events, please refer to the list below:

1. Light/Moderate Rain - sessions proceed as normal. Regular safety checks taken to ensure that field quality is sufficient. If field quality is poor, session may be ended.
2. Heavy Rain - session will be ended, either temporarily or postponed.
3. Waterlogged Field - session may be postponed if coaches determine the field is too waterlogged to ensure player safety
4. Thunder/Lightning - immediate suspension of all activities. Children moved to a safe space

Cancellation Policies

• Staff will endeavour to inform participants/parents by 8am (weekends/day camps) and 3pm (evening programs) if there are any cancellations.
• Summer Day Camp cancellations will result in a credit or partial refund being applied to each registration.
